I. Look back at how you were created (Gen. 2:7)
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground (flesh), and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life (spirit); and man became a living (soul). All of these work together in perfect unity. Once man fell he became spiritually dated.
Gal. 5:16-17: Walk in the spirit and ye shall fulfill the lusts of the flesh.
John 3:5: We must be born again, spirit man must be born again. He must be regenerated. The life and nature of man comes back into that Spirit man and we can get back into fellowship with God and contact the spiritual world properly.
Ezekiel 18:4: Behold all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die. The soul represents your individuality: mind, will, emotions. Body gives us world consciousness and the soul gives us self consciousness and the spirit gives us God consciousness. The soul is linked through the spiritual world through spirit and natural world through the body. The soul has free will to choose his or her environment.
The person that goes back and forth between the environments is a carnal Christian. The person who stays in the flesh are unregenerated. The person who walks after the spirit is spiritual.
The spirit must go through the soul to affect the body and vice versa. This is why you must renew your mind and not be conformed to this world. Trying to receive the Holy Ghost: Some people concentrate on the natural: speaking in tongues, speaking louder or getting emotional.
The early Christians received the Holy Ghost while they were seated. They spoke in tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. They had to allow the unction to come from the inside. It must flow through.
1 Cor. 14:14: If I pray in an unknown tongue… The soul allows your body, your mouth to speak the utterance.
II. Remove misconceptions of spiritual life
If you have misconceptions you are unsure and shaky. When you’re confident, you grab hold. When you’re shaky, you don’t move all the way into it like we should. Misconceptions hinder you and cut off your blessings. What can short circuit you? Sin, fear, unbelief. Obey God and leave the consequences to Him. We have to get comfortable moving in the spirit.
III. Increase your spiritual life
Jesus in his Earthly walk was human and divine, but the spirit dominated. Spirit is king, Soul is servant and Body is slave. A spiritual person trusts in the laws of the word of God. A spiritual person spends more time on spiritual things than natural things and uses their spirit to get things done in the spirit (Mark 11).
The spirit uses communion, intuition and conscience to speak to us. Without the law, the spirit is able to follow along, because its dealing with the Holy Ghost. If you ignore your conscience you become desensitized. Intuition is revelation knowledge that comes to man.
Acts 14:8-10. The more you yield and listen to Him, He will keep coming.
IV. Strengthen the spirit
Pray, meditate — these are like weights for the spirit. Fasting will deal with the body. Obey the promptings of the spirit. What you give the most time to will dominate you. You must have hunger and desire to go after the spirit. Give yourself over the growing in the spirit. Walking in the spirit. Make up your mind to fight and to walk into what God has for us. Preach, teach and demonstrate!
