7 reasons why Resurrection Sunday (Easter) matters

Because He rose, we rise.

1 Thessalonians 4:14

God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.

John 6:40

Everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life.

1 Corinthians 6:14

God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power.

Romans 8:11

He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

Romans 6:4

We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death that we too might walk in the newness of life.

Luke 14:14

And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.

1 Peter 1:3

According to his great mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

What’s wrong with Christians celebrating Halloween?

Is Halloween harmless fun or a practice of the occult? Ultimately, you’ll have to decide for yourself. However, if you’re unsure about your convictions, it’s best to directly pray and seek the Lord on this subject, or consult your pastor. In the meantime, here’s some info on the day itself.

Halloween can be traced back to the ancient festival of Samhain, where pagan priests would offer up human and animal sacrifices. They would travel house to house to collect money and offerings for the sacrifices. A lit pumpkin was used as a signal to mark the homes that supported these practices. Halloween is still celebrated in this way by those who practice witchcraft and the Satanic.

What does the Bible teach?

The Bible is clear the Christians should not practice, encourage or advance sorcery, witchcraft, or the occult. Here are some scriptures that can attest to that:

Ephesians 5: 7-12

Be not ye therefore partakers with them. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.

Deut. 18:  10-12

There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch. Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

Romans 12: 9

Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

1 Cor. 10: 21

Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.

2 Cor. 6: 14-17

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

1 Timothy 4: 1-2

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron.

3 John 1: 11

Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

–Halloween does bring the world to your doorstep. If you’re intent on distributing something sweet, why not consider passing out tracts instead.

–Many create alternatives for this holiday, but maybe make it more of a teachable moment to celebrate and share the truth, way and life of Jesus Christ.

Where was God on 9/11? #neverforget

The cross at the World Trade Center

God is always in control and our calamities are not lost on Him. He is the epitome of goodness, and in His sovereignty He allows us to be human and make choices. We can choose to follow Him, or we can choose to sin.

On 9/11, when terrorists targeted the United States, He was there to console, not control. We have to be responsible for our decisions, especially if we don’t choose Him. Choosing God is to choose love. If the terrorists had chosen love 9/11 would probably look a whole lot different today.

Remember, God loves us. He is a high priest that feels our pain, and His ultimate display of grace and love was at the cross, where Jesus died for our sins.

15 encouraging Bible verses for the New Year!

Here a few verses to encourage your heart and get you moving forward in 2015! (All scripture is written in the King James Version):

Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop fatness. (Psalm 65:11)

Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually. Remember his marvelous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth. (1 Chronicles 16:11-12)

Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. (Isaiah 43:18-19)

And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. (Mark 11:25)

The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing. (Zephaniah 3:17)

Deacon Morris: Steps to strengthening your spiritual man

I. Look back at how you were created (Gen. 2:7)
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground (flesh), and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life (spirit); and man became a living (soul). All of these work together in perfect unity. Once man fell he became spiritually dated.

Gal. 5:16-17: Walk in the spirit and ye shall fulfill the lusts of the flesh.

John 3:5: We must be born again, spirit man must be born again. He must be regenerated. The life and nature of man comes back into that Spirit man and we can get back into fellowship with God and contact the spiritual world properly.

Ezekiel 18:4: Behold all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die. The soul represents your individuality: mind, will, emotions. Body gives us world consciousness and the soul gives us self consciousness and the spirit gives us God consciousness. The soul is linked through the spiritual world through spirit and natural world through the body. The soul has free will to choose his or her environment. (more…)
