Prayer of Faith
In the name of Jesus, I declare that my old self was crucified with Jesus in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that I would no longer be enslaved to sin. I will not let sin therefore reign in my mortal body, to make me obey its passions. I do not present my members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but I present my members to God as instruments for righteousness. (Romans 6:6-14)

Do the fast that God has called

Isaiah 58:5-8
Fasting is one way to move your will out of the way and to turn over to God’s will. There are several types of fasts: absolute, natural, fasting from activities, etc.

When you are fasting, we feel that our bodies are being afflicted, but your soul is being afflicted as well. The flesh is always contrary to what God wants and needs to be subdued. But what happens when you afflict your soul? When your soul is afflicted, there should be a greater desire to be closer to God and to do His will. If only your flesh is afflicted, your soul doesn’t get closer to God.

Your flesh doesn’t have a connection with God, your soul does. God wants your soul to be afflicted to the point where you want nothing more than God. When fasting, do we only say we’re hungry and that our flesh hurts? Or are we saying that our souls are hungry for God? (more…)

Enemies of the soul Pt 5: Word vs. the world

Scripture: 1 John 2:15
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.

For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

Notes: Paul knew that the word would be so watered down through generation to generation and warned that false teachers would be cursed. What the word says is the only thing that counts. One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism. We want to see what the word says and won’t accept anything less. So when it comes to the world we want to be separate.  God warned us in His word what we would come up against. We should be ready to stand and give a reason for the hope that lies within us. Enemies of the soul: The flesh, world, devil Pt 1

Scripture: 1 Peter 2: 11; Romans 7: 18-25

Bishop is beginning a series on the Enemy of the Soul, starting with the flesh. The flesh will keep you out of heaven and is your enemy.

The flesh is your human, carnal and endemic nature and is your enemy. It’s a permanent scar that you will never great rid of. God has a way to bring the flesh under control. If you have the Spirit of God in you then you have what you need to overcome the flesh. Satan tries to get us to think we can’t overcome. He has never been excited about you receiving the Holy Ghost. Ever since you received the Holy Ghost you’ve been attacked by Satan and he does everything he can to turn you against God.

God has identified your enemy, the flesh, in His word and has given us the necessary weapon to conquer it. The flesh tries everyday to get you to turn your back on God. He is waiting to destroy and attack you, especially in your mind. The flesh is constantly fighting us. (more…)
