Spirit

A Spiritual Promotion

75th Psalm, entire division
Promotions only come from God. God will promote you if you live right. It’s good to let God know how much you appreciate what He’s already done for you.
We also must understand that it is not about self-promotion, but that promotion is for the work of God. Everyone will not praise you for your accomplishments, but you must keep you eyes on God. You’re not being promoted by people, but by God. Therefore, no one can stop God from promoting you.
You might not see your promotion right now, but believe that it is on the way if you hold on!
We are in for a big promotion when Jesus comes back to rapture His church. We are constantly in the process of spiritual promotion. Everyday, we want to closer to and stronger in God. The enemy doesn’t want to see your spiritual promotion. But if we trust in Him, He will use the downfalls the enemy caused to build you up. We must continue to do the Lord’s will regardless of trials. You won’t always be in a trial. Stay faithful to God, He will reward the righteous!
Everything that looks bad, isn’t bad. It is working for your good. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)
The promotion that you’re in for is not temporary, it is for eternity! So, we should praise the name of Jesus. He knows how to bring you up and how to deliver you!
We don’t need to try to promote ourselves. (Luke 14:11) Pride is empty and arrogance is foolish. God can make something out of us. Don’t be filled with pride, be filled with praise!
God’s will for our lives is what really matters. We should put our trust in Him. Seek The Lord for direction.
The devil wanted everything Job had. God told Him he could try, but Job stayed faithful to God and God gave Job a great promotion, giving him double what he lost. If you want to be promoted, you have to go through things. But know while you’re going through that you can’t fail when God is in charge!

Enemies of the soul Pt 3: Walk by the spirit

Bishop is beginning a series on the Enemy of the Soul, starting with the flesh. The flesh will keep you out of heaven and is your enemy!

Notes: Scripture shows a conflict between the flesh and spirit to reveal the nature of our everyday struggles.

Two births, two natures
We are born naturally. John 3:6 – That that is born of the flesh is flesh.  That which is born of the spirit is spirit. Jesus explained this to Nicodemus. Receiving the Holy Ghost is the birth of the spirit. Galatians 4:23-29. Ishmael was born after the flesh and Isaac was born after the spirit. Therefore we have two natures. 1 Corinthians 11:14, Ephesians 2:3. Because we are born again we are partakers of the divine nature, since we’ve been born again. 2 Peter 1:4. Within us both natures want to rule. One is fighting against the other.

Two walks
Every child of God have two roads, two walks that rise to meet us. Jesus says one is narrow and one is broad. You can’t take both. Each one leads to a destiny. You’ll end up somewhere, but the decision is yours. God gave us direction and then left it up to us to decide which way we go. We can walk in the flesh.

Galatians 5:16-17, Romans 8:4. Paul urges us to walk in the spirit. When you walk in the spirit then you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. If you want to overcome your flesh, fleshly desires then you must choose to walk in the spirit. That’s why it’s important for every child of God to understand how important the spirit is.  (more…)

Is it easy being saved? Takes the Spirit

Scripture: Galatians 5:22

Notes: There is a flesh warring in our members. That’s why it takes the Spirit to put these things (fruit) in us. What keeps you from doing what your flesh desires? A still small voice. When the Spirit of God is having its perfect work it exemplifies the fruit. Kindness, for example, will come up in play when you want to react strongly.

Thank God for the Holy Ghost! If the Spirit wasn’t working in us then there is a lot that we would end up doing, but for the faith, mercy and grace of God – we would go overboard. Even where our achievements are concerned – you would be lifted up and proud. When you look over your life you can thank God and give Him the glory for the things that He has done. If it had not been the Lord who was on our side!  (more…)

Do you bear fruits of peace, longsuffering?

Scripture: Galatians 5:22-23

Notes: It’s important for us to make sure that we are producing the fruit that the Holy Ghost is producing, if we say we are filled with the Holy Ghost. Otherwise you’ll be pruned. And we can bear more than one fruit. Last week, we talked about love and joy. Tonight we start with peace.

Jesus doesn’t want to see you not produce. If you find yourself coming up short, dig and cultivate. Every now and again we have to pull the weeds out of our lives. Doesn’t mean you don’t have the Holy Ghost. Just means you have some hindrances. Don’t let your fruit spoil. This is the day and age to be concerned about your spiritual life. You need to examine yourself and see where you are. “It’s me, it’s me oh Lord, standing in the need of prayer.” Check your production to see if you are where God wants you to be.  He spells it out in the Word.

Peace
Peace is defined as quietness, rest and tranquility in the midst of turmoil, strife and temptation; calm and serenity. Peace is not the absence of war. Can you have peace in the midst of war? Yes, and that’s why the world looks at us strange. We are peculiar. We should be raging, but we’re not, even thought most of us are facing turmoil every day of our lives. That’s why the Word says let the peace of God rule your heart. Then you can sit still in the midst of turmoil. “Cast all your cares on Him, for He careth for you.” When you can develop a trust in God then you can peace in a storm. That’s not natural, but supernatural. Give God the opportunity to let His Word work in you.

We’re still human, but we ought to be temperate in our emotions. The Spirit of God is to control our human inabilities. Whatever mistake you make will condemn you, but God has made a way of escape to bring you back in line. The thing that bothers you is the area that needs to be worked on. Sometimes we lost the fight, but we won’t lose the battle. We call on Jesus and He comes in to help, aid and carry you through. For those who don’t have the Holy Ghost nothing is right, something is always going on. But the kingdom of God is peace in the Holy Ghost. Romans 14:17 reads: For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. That’s what we are supposed to be producing in the kingdom.

We know Jesus to be the Prince of Peace. So how can you be involved with the Prince of Peace and not have peace. Everyone gets upset, but that shouldn’t be a part of your daily life. Be calm, be pleasant. Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them (Psalm 119:165). James 3:17-18: But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace. What you feed your mind is what you’re going to become.

Longsuffering
If you want to be a pastor you have to have this one! Longsuffering is defined as patient endurance. Aren’t we glad that we serve a Lord that is longsuffering with us? One person can respond quickly, but another person may not respond as quickly. You have to allow people to be themselves. Then you won’t become so frustrated. Everybody is not the same.  (more…)

Are you bearing the fruit of the Spirit?

Scripture: Genesis 1:12, Galatians 5:22-23

Notes: Notice that fruit, not trees, reproduce fruit.  The function of the tree is to reproduce itself. When a child of God bears the fruit of the Spirit, the seed is in the fruit. You cannot bear more fruit without the Spirit, for the Spirit produces the seed so we can bear more fruit. When you recieve the Holy Ghost, for instance, you receive all the qualities of God, but you must be born of the water and the Spirit to bear fruit.  The word is also the seed. You can’t separate them because they are all one – that’s understanding John 1 and the oneness of God.

The church of God is a living organism that is capable of reproducing itself through the personal testimonies of its members. “We are helpers one of another … we overcome by the word of our testimony … faith comes by hearing the word of God.” The more you hear about how God has brought somebody out, the more your faith is going to increase. You help somebody else when you tell them what God has done for you. It is vital for you to not hinder the process, but allow the Spirit of God to work through you.

Love (agapēs in Greek)
Nothing can separate us from the love of Jesus.  (more…)

Bible study: Let agape love operate in your life

Love suffers long and is kind (1 Cor. 13: 4-8, NKJ)

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13, 1 John 4: 7-21
Elder Shaw teaches on another fruit of the Spirit – love, based on Paul’s letter to the Corinthians.

Notes: You don’t have to work to get love from God. You just allow it in your life. The Bible gives us instruction and commands us to acknowledge the Lord in all our ways. The Word is there so that we may practice Agape love, be productive  and add to the body of Christ.

Q&A
Q: What is agape love?
A: Unconditional love that doesn’t want anything back in return, but requires the Holy Ghost and a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Q: What are the other types of love?
A: Three. Eros – Romantic or erotic love.  Phileo – Brotherly love.

Q: What should the saints do if they feel unloved or wounded by the church?
A: We’re going on to perfection and so is the church. We have to be strong, prayerful and watchful. Focus on God and don’t let others affect your walk with the Lord. We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification. For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me. (Romans 15: 1-3). Sometimes it’s all in your perception. Let Christ’s mind be in you. Furthermore, you can consult with the pastor.

Bible study: Talking about ‘real joy’

The fruits of the Spirit

Scripture: Matthew 5:1-10, Galatians 5:22-26; 6:1-10
Elder Shaw teaches on the joys of joy.

Notes: The fifth chapter in the Epistle to the Galatians discusses the fruits of the Spirit. If we are filled with the Holy Ghost we should be producing love, joy and the rest of the attributes listed in Galatians 5:22. They are found in you, but you have to cultivate them and allow them to manifest in your life.

Joy is defined as the experience, expression and possession of great pleasure and satisfaction. What can cause you to lose your joy? If we lose our joy it’s by choice. It could be because of a lack of faith, disobedience, discouragement and/or the trials and tribulations of life. However, if you sow to your Spirit you “shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.”

The Book of James admonishes us to “count it all joy” when we fall into diverse temptations. That means rejoice “with joy unspeakable,” and put your trust and confidence in the Lord. It’s about your attitude and your perspective, especially when you’re going through. But you have to make a choice to reach out for real joy by faith.

Joy is a possession. It’s yours if you want it. You can share it by lifting someone else up. Remember how Paul and Silas praised God in spite of the circumstances? Joy is also spiritual. It comes from God being inside of us. We have to yield and learn to stay in the presence of the Lord, where there is fullness of joy.

Q&A
Q: What’s the difference between joy and happiness?
A: The term “blessed” means happy, but happiness can be a momentary or fleeting feeling. Joy is a lifestyle and attribute of the Holy Ghost.
