Enemies of the soul Pt 5: Word vs. the world

Scripture: 1 John 2:15
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.

For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

Notes: Paul knew that the word would be so watered down through generation to generation and warned that false teachers would be cursed. What the word says is the only thing that counts. One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism. We want to see what the word says and won’t accept anything less. Enemies of the soul Pt 4: Relating to the world

Bishop is beginning a series on the Enemy of the Soul, starting with the flesh. The flesh will keep you out of heaven and is your enemy!

Notes: We as the people of God have to enjoy the things around us, without letting them contaminate us. We are the church of the living God and we have to demonstrate and exemplify the church. Romans 12:2 – Be not conformed to this world. Conformed defined is becoming like your surroundings, environment. But be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind. You have to have a different mindset and want to change, so you can confirm to the things that are of God, and not of this world. Renewing of your mind defined is bringing your flesh under subjection and fashioning your mind after Christ.

We’re in the world, but we’re not of it. The world will try to press you into its thought pattern. Don’t think like the world; think like God through the word of God. We all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. We were born with an Adamic nature. Paul was trying to get the Romans to understand that we, the church, not only have to have a renewed mind, but a different mindset to prove what is that good, acceptable and perfect will of God. We have to constantly renew our minds. (more…)
