Recap of a sermon on ‘Love in a whipping’

Bro. Ethan sits obediently as his father mans the church soundboard, during a sermon.

Bishop preached out of Hebrews 12:1-9, Sunday morning. Here is a brief recap of the lesson:

Do you want to go to heaven? Are you willing to do what it takes to get there? God is calling for obedient children, and we have to succumb to the discipline He has for us. God’s discipline is not like man’s. Chastisement isn’t bad. It’s a sign that God loves you. It’s hard to see “love in a whipping,” but whom the Lord loveth he chastens. If you accept this discipline principle, it will bless you and enable you to live as God’s spiritual child.

God is saying: “I love you too much to go astray, to let the devil have you.” He wants to heal something in your life in the same way that parents punish their children for wrongdoing, but we soon forget God and the things he is instructing us to do. And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him.

He loves you enough to rebuke you so that you might share His holiness, live a sanctified life, endure the hardships, and escape condemnation with the world. When God chastens you He is not trying to destroy you. He is looking for one good man or woman to demonstrate His righteousness. Who will stand up  and say “use me Lord?” Will you say this, or will you despise His chastisement, and turn your back on all He represents and that represents Him?

If so, then you are not His child. But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. This is God’s judgment. It’s not enough to just quote His Word, you have to understand and live by it. We must submit to God’s Word and remain faithful. So don’t depart from God, put on the whole armor of God so you can stand against the wiles of the enemy, be obedient and remain steadfast until the end.

Are you willing to be disciplined by God? Are you glad to be a partaker in God’s chastisement? Where would you be without His love in a whipping? Contact us at 202-399-7774 for more information or a CD of the service. If you can, share your testimony in the comments below.
