The Prayer of a Prophet

“And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.” -James 5:15-18 KJV

One of the must effective prayers in all scripture was Elijah’s.

Just like Elijah, men ought to always pray and not faint. Faint means to be weary or utterly spiritless. We gain strength from prayer. If you do not pray, you will faint.

God can put an angel in charge over you.

“He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius. And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God. And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter: He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.” -Acts 10:3-6 KJV

Prayer is moved by the faith you have and what you pray for. Don’t doubt your prayer, but believe in it. Prayer brings divine intervention by whatever means God chooses.

Elijah prayed effectually and fervently. The word effectual comes from word meaning energy. He prayed with so much energy and efficiency that he got undeniable and miraculous results. The spirit also helps our infirmities by making intercession for us.

“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” -Romans 8:26-27

Pray earnestly. Pray with worship. Pray for God to supplicate. When you worship in prayer, you will receive recognition from God.

It does not show lack of faith to pray more than once. Jesus prayed three times before going to the cross. Elijah prayed seven times before the rain stopped. Keep praying!

Elijah prayed so much because he had a promise from God. Good told him to show himself to Ahab and He would send rain to the earth. Prayer and faith releases God’s benefits.

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” -Phil. 4:6-7

“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” -1 John 5:14-15

Have confidence in God!

Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. Your prayer should have no selfish element in it. Ask God what you can do for Him. Pray in the will of God.

For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” -2 Peter 3:9

Our challenge: pray as effectually and fervently as Elijah and pray for others to come to God. When you are in the will of God, you are NOT going under, no matter if the circumstances seem bad. God will take care of you when you’re in His will! No situation will destroy you if you are in his will.

Sometimes prayers don’t get answered until you give up everything. Accept the deliverance God gives you. Stop trying to figure our how God is going to bless you, just let him do it. Your faith will release your answer to your prayer if your prayer is in God will and you don’t ask amiss.
